Making a plan and sticking to it…

I think I have found the keys to success!  Not everyone’s success, but at least mine.
1. SET SOME GOALS…some big and some small. That way, if you don’t hit your big goal right away, you have some smaller ones to get you there. Example: (Big goal) I want to lose 50 pounds. (Small goal) lose 10 pounds.
2. GET OTHERS INVOLVED IN YOUR GOALS… Hire a trainer. Someone that knows what you need. Understands your goals and how to get you there. If you can’t afford a trainer, get a gym buddy. I have an awesome gym buddy! Not only has she already been through it, but she holds me accountable, motivates me and challenges me to work harder.
3. TRY LOTS OF DIFFERENT CLASSES AND ACTIVITIES… there are so many different classes, machines and trainers to try out a PF. Take some time to try a few. Even ones you don’t think you would like…sometimes finding out what you don’t like, helps you find what you do. I’ve tried HD, Spinning, Cardiosport, Personal Training, Zumba, Kick and the pool. There are still a few I would like to try (just haven’t because of scheduling ) I have found that I prefer weights over cardio, but that’s just me. I love the pool because it’s easier on bad joints and old wounds. There is something for everyone, you just have to move.
4.GET THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT…that doesn’t mean go out and buy a personal gym. I’m talking about proper shoes. Shoes that have support for whichever activity you choose. If you do Cardiosport, Art of Strength, Tabata, Ropa (basically any class on the inside green) I would recommend gloves. The turf can be a little hard on your hands until you build up some calluses. And I know not everyone will have this problem, but if you are busty, get the right bra support. Some of the classes require a lot of jumping. It can become very uncomfortable and hurt your back if you don’t support “the girls” properly.
5.CHANGE HOW YOU EAT… This has probably been my worst obstacle. I LOVE TO EAT!!! I don’t want to diet, I’m horrible at it! Just like a kid, if you tell me I can’t have it, I want it even more. Sugar Free, Fat Free, Low Sodium, Low Carb…blah, blah, blah…YUCK!!! I want healthy, but I also want FLAVOR! I’m getting better about what I eat,but I still allow myself a treat now and then. The difference is, I have a few bites instead of the whole thing. I have also sent pictures of what I’m eating to my trainer (being accountable)
6. BE PROUD OF ACCOMPLISHMENT… First ‘small’ goal, DONE!! I’ve lost 10 pounds!! Still have big goals to hit, but right now I’ll enjoy the small ones. Good luck!
