Getting Fitness Back on Track With Back-to-School Routines

Rachul Lomeli

I’ve had a great summer. It’s been full of picnics on the beach, hot dogs at the baseball games, and backyard bbqs. While we’ve had loads of fun this summer, I admit that my fitness schedule was completely derailed. Sure, I’ve been more active outdoors, but I’ve also packed on the calories (read: pounds) and let my routines slide. Not only have I slacked on my exercise routines, but I’ve all but abandoned my usual meal-planning. With school starting on September 1st, I’m taking the opportunity to get my own schedule back on track.

Last week I was at the gym and I noticed these little books at the front desk. I was immediately drawn to the pocket-sized, spiral bound journal, even as I realized it would be at least a week before I could dedicate my full attention to it. I immediately purchased the journal and tossed it into my gym bag, banking on my future motivation. Then today I tried on a pair of jeans that I haven’t pulled on since May. YIKES! I found my motivation. Still, I can be lacking in accountability, so I’m putting it out there to all of you, dear readers, to keep me on track.

Are you tired of seeing this same picture? Yeah, me too. I need more photos.
Beginning September 1st, please follow along with me as I track my diet and exercise regimen.  Every day for thirty days, I will post my progress on Macaroni Kid Plymouth’s Facebook page, along with meal planning ideas, recipes I’m trying out, and possibly a little venting too.  My goal will be to fit back into my size 6 jeans (the size 8’s I tried on today were embarrassingly tight!).  I’m not going to focus so much on the number on the scale (although I do have one in mind); rather, I’m going to try to feel comfortable in my own skin again. I will be returning to some old standy-bys, including yoga, pilates, and group exercise classes (my favorite is Group Power), and I will be trying out more of the HD training now offered at Plymouth Fitness. Somewhere in all that I am definitely going to need to fit in a massage!

While I’m getting my schedule realigned to the school year, I need to keep in mind the kids’ after-school activities too.  Fortunately, there are plenty of opportunities to keep them physically fit and engaged in fun activities while I work out. Registration for swim classes at Plymouth Fitness is NOW, with classes beginning September 8th. Click HERE for more information and to view their complete schedule. My kids are looking forward to getting back to the Fit Kids classes while I get in my daily workout before dinner, and if all else fails, they can chill out in the day care.
